Stress is a big part of modern life. By now, we all learned that psychological stress has an effect on our body and brain’s physiology. In this talk we will discover the details: is all stress bad for you? In what context can stress be beneficial for brain function? Can exposure to stress change the vulnerability to develop mental illness? Kaufer will present findings from her lab about the plastic changes that occur in the brain in response to stress, and their consequences on mental, cognitive and neurological function.

Prof. Kaufer will be a special guest at Employee Healthcare, Wellness & Benefits Summit (18-19.09.2019, Sofia, Bulgaria).

Prof. Daniela Kaufer is the Class of 1943 Memorial Chair Professor of Integrative Biology and Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute, and the Associate Dean of Biological Sciences at UC Berkeley. Prof. Kaufer received her PhD in molecular neuroscience from The Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the departments of Biological Sciences and Neurosurgery at Stanford University. Kaufer’s lab is studying how does the brain deal with perturbations like stress and brain injury and what are the mechanisms underlying trajectories of resilience and vulnerability throughout life, and into aging. Professor Kaufer is the recipient of the National Institute of Mental Health Director's New Innovator Award (BRAINS), NARSAD Young and independent Investigator Awards, BAKAR Entrepreneurship Fellowship, And the Archer award for innovation in aging research. Kaufer has published over 50 research papers, in top journals including Nature Neuroscience, Nature, The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Journal of Neuroscience, Molecular Psychiatry, Nature Medicine, eLIFE, Science, Annals of Neurology, and Neuron. Her work deciphering the effects of stress on brain function was featured widely in the media, including Forbes, Huffington post, Fox News, TED, BBC, LA Times, and San Francisco Chronicle.
